It’s a very simple formula:
Take one long weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday)
Liberally sprinkle with information overload.
Add lashings of talk.
Mix in 1 cup of overwhelming generosity.
And top with amazing new friendships.
What you get is the Romance Writers of Australia Conference 2015.
Now, I’ve been to conferences before. And they are usually fun. But the sheer cameraderie and joy and spirit of the #RWAus15 was incredible.
I don’t know if it was because I was a newbie (one of 100 of us). I don’t know if it was the quality and quantity of information. I don’t know if it was the excitement in the room of 400 authors-and-soon-to-be-authors. But whatever it was, it was magical.
Today, I am slowly coming down from the experience. My exploded brain is piecing itself back together. I have a tonne of work to do, polishing my characters, my story, and getting it all ready to publish, but after the weekend, I have no doubt whatsoever that I can do it.
If you are a romance writer, or you write books with elements of romance, you can join the RWA. And after this, I’ll be encouraging everyone to do so. They obviously know their stuff.
