PR and Marketing for Indie Novellists

 

clutterI’ve been overwhelming myself with marketing and PR information over the past couple of days, to the point where I’m sure I look like a deer in headlights.

Today, I decided what Australia’s indie novelists need is a resource to help them get their career off the ground.

It will start with a book. The book will tell Australian indie novelists the steps they need to take so that when they get to the point of launching a book, they have a support network in place so that the launch will be as effective as possible.

It’s not going to be a fun book for novelists to read. Generally, we are more introverted than extroverted, and we are much more excited about writing our books than administering our career. But if a novelist wants to go the indie (or hybrid) path, there are a bunch of things they need to be aware of:

Making the right contacts.

Understanding the costs of indie publishing.

Finding out who will actually want to read your book, and engaging with them.

How to create an author presence, and how to nurture it.

Finding editors, beta readers, cover designers, printers, PR people, etc.

How to do all the above stuff yourself, if you don’t have a brass razoo to your name.

If you have indie published a novel in Australia, I’d love to hear from you. I suspect much of the book will contain distillations of advice from existing authors since they should be the ones who know what’s going on, right?
